Most founders don’t fail because they lack passion or work ethic. They fail because they surround themselves with people who agree with them.

Real advisory isn’t validation. It’s  perspective.

The best advisors create constructive friction. They slow you down just enough to prevent avoidable mistakes, and they pressure‑test your thinking before the market does. They’re not there to make you feel good. They’re there to make you see clearly.

Founders often outgrow their early echo chambers without realizing it. Friends, early employees, and even well‑meaning mentors tend to support your ideas rather than challenge them. That works in the earliest days, but it becomes dangerous as decisions get bigger and the stakes get higher.

This is where the difference between a mentor and a strategic advisor becomes obvious:

  • Mentors share encouragement, experience, and general wisdom.

  • Strategic advisors dig into your assumptions, your model, your blind spots, and your decision‑making patterns.

One helps you feel supported.

The other helps you avoid expensive mistakes.

A great advisor isn’t trying to win your approval. They’re trying to sharpen your thinking so you can win in the market.

The right advice should sharpen your thinking, not just confirm it.
